Geomines, the Risk&Co Group’s dedicated mine clearance Business Unit was recently requested by the Toulouse Metropolis (Toulouse metropole) to assist with works carried out in the framework of the so-called Hyperloop project.

The Hyperloop project aims at developing a high speed, intercity transporter, using a low-pressure tube train which could reach an average speed of 600 to 700 km/hour. The project is currently being developed in Toulouse by the Californian Hyperloop Transportation Technologies company. The stated objective is to open a fast connection between the cities of Paris, Orléans and Toulouse, via Limoges.

Two mains operations are currently under work, on the site of the former Francazal French Army base (55 hectares), where Geomines’ teams are already carrying out mine clearance operations, capitalising on previous land surveys. Securing the Francazal site appears indeed crucial for the continuation of the Hyperloop project, since the former French Army base was targeted by American aerial bombings in 1944.

Geomines’ contribution will therefore prove critical in helping carry out and deliver most of the ground works on time. Officially selected as partners by Toulouse Metropolis in September 2018, Geomines’ teams are proud to contribute to the creation of key infrastructures in the conurbation.
