As part of its mine clearance activities, Geomines, the Risk&Co Group’s dedicated Business Unit has been conducting field works on behalf of the ministry of the Armed Forces, since September 2018.
The field works take place in the framework of important pyrotechnic clearance operations aimed at rehabilitating an old shooting range, located in Saint-Clair-sur-Galaure, in Isère, France, and placed under the direction of the French Army.
To this date, this operation has helped treating an area of about 1 hectare, with the discovery of more than 500 pieces of ammunition, including 54 still active ones. The treatment of such active pieces of ammunition – dating from 1890 to more recent days – takes places in trenches and destruction operations are carried out on a weekly basis.
The expertise of the 5 field operators, deployed for the occasion, is used to effectively clean up these particularly saturated soils. These soils also require undergoing an initial phase of stripping, followed by a detection phase, before being rehabilitated for a safe use.
The work of the experts of the Geomines Business Unit is essential in to ensure the continuity of the activity and to guarantee a safe use of certain areas, whether military or civilian.
